<The Ministry of Commerce has clarified the trade name similarity criteria under which the registrar has the right to reject a request to reserve or register a trade name if he finds that it is similar to another reserved or registered trade name.
Article 5 of the Executive Regulations of the Trade Names Law stipulates the following: A trade name is considered similar to another trade name if its alphabetical form is similar to a reserved, registered or internationally recognized trade name, based on criteria determined by the Registrar, including the following: Identical spelling with different word order, identical spelling with the addition, deletion or change of pronouns, duality, pluralization, pluralization, or L, and identical pronunciation of the number or letter with the pronunciation, or vice versa, and this applies to the trade name in the English language according to the corresponding Arabic letters.
The Ministry pointed out that the duration of the study and processing of the trade name is within ten days from the date of submission of the completed application, in accordance with Article 7 of the Executive Regulations of the Trade Names Law, which states: The Registrar shall decide on the request to reserve or register the trade name that meets the required data within (ten) days from the date of its submission, and the Registrar may extend the period by no more than (thirty) days if the decision on the request requires the approval of relevant authorities.
