Recent data issued by General Authority for Statistics showed a significant increase in the number of dwellings occupied by Saudi families during 2024, where their number increased by about 233 thousand dwellings, with a growth rate of 2.7% compared to the previous year, bringing the total to about 4.39 million dwellings in various regions of the Kingdom.

According to the Housing Statistics Bulletin issued by the Authority, the number of dwellings occupied by Saudi families accounted for 50.6% of the total number of dwellings within the Kingdom. Riyadh and Mecca take the lead

<Riyadh topped the list of administrative regions in terms of the number of dwellings occupied by Saudi families, with 1.05 million dwellings, representing about 24% of the total dwellings, followed by the Makkah region with about 1.04 million dwellings, or 23.9%, then the Eastern Province, which recorded 700 thousand dwellings, or 16%. The number of dwellings in Asir region reached 320.8 thousand, followed by Medina with 315.2 thousand, while regions such as Al-Jouf and Northern Borders recorded the lowest numbers with shares not exceeding 2%.

Apartments lead housing types

<In terms of housing types, the statistics revealed that apartments were the most prevalent type, accounting for 45% of the total housing occupied by Saudi households, equivalent to 1.97 million apartments. Villas came second with 31% (1.36 million villas), followed by traditional houses with 12.4%, and detached houses with 10.8%. Other housing types accounted for less than 1% of the total.

Home Ownership and Rent

<Regarding the type of housing tenure, the data showed that owned housing (with or without mortgages or loans) was concentrated at 23.6% in the Riyadh region, which also led in the percentage of rented housing at 24.5%.
