A report released by the British Legatum Institute stated that Saudi Arabia ranked third among Arab countries on the 2015 Global Prosperity Index, while the United Arab Emirates topped the list and Kuwait came in second.
Globally, Saudi Arabia ranked 49th, the UAE ranked 27th, and Kuwait ranked 35th, while Jordan ranked 65th and Morocco ranked 71st. Tunisia ranked 97th, followed by Lebanon at 98th, and then Egypt at 110th. As was the case in last year’s ranking for the same index, Syria ranked among the lowest, along with Yemen and Sudan.
The index revealed that Norway ranked first globally, followed by Switzerland in second place and Denmark in third, while the United States ranked 11th and the United Kingdom 15th. The high rankings of the three Arab countries at the top are due to their strong performance in the areas of economy, health, education, security, and investment opportunities, with the Kingdom achieving top global rankings in social cohesion and security. This index, published by the British Legatum Institute, ranked 142 countries based on eight indicators: economy, entrepreneurship and investment opportunities, government performance, education, health, security, individual freedom, and social cohesion. The institute emphasizes that well-being is not solely related to per capita income or gross domestic product, but also to citizens’ quality of life, comfort, and happiness.
