A number of people accused of stealing government land are referred for investigation

Posted in

Regulatory authorities have summoned more than 20 individuals suspected of involvement in the unauthorized alteration and seizure of government land in a number of the Kingdom’s major cities, The names of several other individuals who have encroached on government land are still under investigation and review after encroachment committees in various regions of the Kingdom submitted their names to the competent authorities, which referred them for investigation. Others have been notified that they must report to the competent authority.

A regulatory source explained that the names of approximately 20 individuals who have repeatedly encroached on state lands were submitted by encroachment committees in several locations and over closely spaced periods, and the findings of the relevant government agencies also included repeated acts of seizure carried out by some of these individuals at more than one location, followed by their attempts to carry out "revitalization" projects in order to claim rights to the lands they had seized, as well as the similarity in the methods and practices they employ during sales or to prevent removal operations in secret and inciting citizens to confront the encroachment committees.

A number of the accused individuals had leveled plots of land outside the urban area and surrounded them with earthen embankments, and then set up booths to sell them to citizens for amounts not exceeding 80,000 riyals for areas of up to 900 square meters, The encroachment committees issued warnings to the developers at those sites, requiring them to present the documents and evidence authorizing their construction and development activities at those locations.
