To promote and develop the contracting sector, Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, Minister of Commerce and Industry, issued a decision to appoint the members of the first board of directors of the Saudi Contractors Authority, which aims to develop the contracting sector in the Kingdom and raise the level of the profession.
This comes in accordance with Cabinet Decision No. 510 dated 23/11/1436H approving the organization of the Saudi Contractors Authority and granting the Minister of Commerce and Industry the authority to form the first board of directors of the Authority, whose members should be interested in the contracting profession.

The decision included the appointment of a board of directors consisting of ten members as follows: Ahmed Al-Qasabi, Osama Al-Afaleq, Saeed Al-Zahrani, Tariq Al-Fouzan, Abdulhakim bin Amer, Fahad Al-Hammadi, Moath Al-Suhaibani, Muammar Al-Attawi, Yasser Al-Duhaim, and Yasser Al-Haqbani.
The decision to organize the Authority issued by the Council of Ministers stipulates that government agencies should only contract with contractors who are members of the Authority after the regulation comes into force and establish mechanisms that ensure the participation of contractors in the Authority, and requires the inclusion of a clause in the terms and specifications booklet that requires the contractor to provide proof of valid membership in the Authority.

The Saudi Contractors Authority's powers include establishing and developing the foundations and standards related to the sector, representing the sector in relevant international committees, bodies and unions, collecting and publishing all relevant information and statistics, and informing the sector's employees of the regulations, decisions and instructions related to the sector. It also included the establishment of indicators for contracting sector information such as building materials prices and contractors' wages, and the development of an electronic registry that includes interactive data about the contractor, his specialization and his previous works.
