27 billion riyals in real estate investments by the «Pension Fund» as of the end of 2013

The General Organization for Social Security’s annual statistical report for the fiscal year 1434–1435 AH – 2013 CE – that its total real estate investments amounted to 26.63 billion riyals, in addition to its other investments both inside and outside the Kingdom.
The Authority explained that it contributes to supporting and developing the national economy by investing a significant portion of its assets in shares of local companies, through equity participation in economically viable companies, noting its investments in 64 local companies across various sectors; most notably: the banking and financial services sector, the petrochemical industry, the cement sector, the real estate development sector, as well as the telecommunications and information technology sectors, among others. The Corporation’s investments are divided into two categories: financial investments and real estate investments. The Corporation achieved a total return on its financial investments of 8.1% by the end of the year. Through the “Masaken” program for lending to government employees and retirees, the Corporation provided financing to 163,300 employees and retirees by the end of the fiscal year 1434–1435 AH – 2013 CE, with total financing for them amounting to 2.42 billion riyals. The report indicated that the number of retirees from the enactment of the pension system in 1364 AH through the end of the fiscal year 1434/1435 AH – 2013 AD, exceeded 617,000 retirees, and the percentage of retirees who reached the statutory retirement age was 59.5% of the total number of living retirees, an increase of 8% compared to last year. The percentage of early retirees was 32.8%, an increase of 13.4% from last year, while retirees due to disability accounted for 7% of the total retirees, and those retiring for other reasons accounted for 0.7%. The Authority clarified that the number of living retirees stood at 280,460, with males accounting for 90.1%—an increase of 9.1% from last year—while female retirees accounted for 10.1%, an increase of 16.11% from last year, It added that the number of deceased retirees stood at 790,156, with 392,298 beneficiaries receiving benefits on their behalf.
It should be noted that the Fund’s report included an overview of the work, activities, and services provided by the Fund’s sectors and branches within the context of their duties and responsibilities regarding the provision of financial support to retirees.
