The Ministry of Housing has instructed all citizens who have received housing units that have begun to be distributed in the Jazan region—specifically in Wadi Abu Hajar—not to rent these units to anyone, even if they are relatives.
The Ministry justified its request by stating that these housing units are subsidized and are considered a financial benefit to the individual; they are not considered the property of the beneficiary but are instead leased to them by the Ministry, and the intention is for them to use the units themselves, not to sell or rent them to others.
The Ministry of Housing clarified that it is working to provide these units to eligible recipients without the aim of financial gain, noting that these units were distributed to eligible recipients who applied through the housing support website, and that it is best for individuals to make these units available to those who are truly eligible.
The Ministry of Housing noted that if a beneficiary who has received a housing unit from a housing support project believes that another housing unit is more suitable for them and their family members, they may move into it, provided the owner of that housing unit consents, explaining that this is what occurred in the Jazan region.
The Ministry noted that a person may modify the layout of the housing unit they own by increasing the number of floors or altering the interior design.
The Ministry of Housing clarified that its branches across the Kingdom will monitor housing projects for a full year after they are allocated to eligible citizens, to assess residents’ needs following their move-in, and regional municipalities will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of the residential neighborhoods within these projects, just as they do for other neighborhoods in the region.
