The Ministry of Housing moved quickly to correct the eligibility status of citizens who applied for Ministry of Housing programs but had their applications rejected in the lists announced by the Ministry the day before yesterday, changing their status from «ineligible» to «eligible.»
This very swift response from the Ministry of Housing comes after a wave of widespread criticism directed at the ministry when citizens were surprised to find they were deemed ineligible on the grounds that they owned homes with electricity meters, according to the records of the Saudi Electricity Company, whereas in reality the electricity records indicate that they are merely tenants.
The Ministry took the initiative to send text messages to beneficiaries’ cell phones, reassuring them that it would correct the application status in the Housing Support Program to reflect “tenant” based on the electricity company’s data, and subsequently sent confirmation messages stating that it had corrected the application status in the housing subsidy program. Although the Ministry has corrected the application statuses, there remains widespread concern due to discrepancies in eligibility classifications, which have led to confusion regarding the interpretations.
