Housing support

It is very important for the Ministry of Housing to adhere to the announced housing support program, but what is even more important in this matter is that the housing units to be distributed to eligible recipients be available, and while we are fully convinced of the difficulty of satisfying everyone and meeting all their requirements—which are numerous and complex—it is nevertheless essential that two things be achieved: first, a sense of satisfaction among the public regarding the efforts being made, In this context, every complaint submitted must be examined individually to determine which are valid so they can be added to the support list. The second is that the Ministry must expedite the housing projects so they can be brought to fruition. The housing crisis has worsened in recent years as a result of the focus on building high-end units for a small segment of the population capable of paying for them, while the majority of the population has continued to suffer severely from rising rents without a corresponding increase in salaries to offset the growing financial burden. The ministry’s greatest challenge remains entering into partnerships with the private sector and bringing the much-discussed projects to fruition, and to capitalize on the Cabinet’s decision to allow foreign companies to enter the market based on their expertise, without the need for classification by the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs. In fact, the support provided by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the Ministry of Housing should have resulted in a major achievement by any measure, because the leadership’s primary concern is the citizen. Will we see the Ministry mobilize its efforts toward tangible results, moving beyond mere statements and mechanisms?
