Fahad Al-Hammadi, board member of the Riyadh Chamber and chairman of the Contractors Committee, confirmed that the idea of establishing the Saudi Contractors Association aims to help develop the contracting sector to ensure its effective participation in the planning and implementation of construction programs in development plans, in addition to developing human resources and the work environment to keep pace with regional and global developments to ensure that the interests of workers in this sector are maintained.
Al Hammadi described the move as important to coordinate the efforts of contractors' committees in different chambers of commerce to enable contracting companies to carry out the largest share of construction work in the Kingdom and compete with foreign companies inside and outside the Kingdom by improving the working conditions of national companies and developing their human and material capabilities and sources of financing to encourage them to increase cooperation and joint projects between them.
Al Hammadi pointed out that the need for such an association comes in light of the strong economic situation witnessed by the Kingdom and the development and service projects being implemented in a number of regions after the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques allocated huge amounts in the budget of the current year, noting that the Kingdom has become attractive to a number of foreign investors and the establishment of this association helps enable companies to compete and win a share of the construction projects implemented by the state.
Al-Hammadi praised the study completed by the National Committee for Contractors on the establishment of the association, which includes the proposal of the draft statute of the association and the draft executive regulations of the system, explaining that the preparation of this study was based on the experiences of contractors' associations in many countries and said that the establishment of the association will achieve a number of objectives, including achieving the vision, mission and objectives of the contractors' committees in the Saudi Chambers of Commerce to actively participate in the development of the Kingdom's economy and activate the institutional bodies to support contractors, in addition to developing the role and tasks of the contractors' committee and expanding its bodies and increasing its effectiveness.
