Engineer Abdulrahman Al-Haddalq, Deputy Secretary-General for Reconstruction in the Madinah Region, outlined the benefits provided by the new building permit system, which utilizes Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies. He explained that this system is designed to serve employees at the Reconstruction Agency and engineering firms, noting that the system enables users to work on the Secretariat’s systems via a single screen to manage all procedures related to issuing permits, and provides immediate and easy access to the latest information regarding land and plans.

Speaking at an introductory workshop on the new licensing system for engineering firms operating in Madinah, Al-Haddalq explained that the system includes the latest information on building requirements directly through a geographic explorer specific to the map of Madinah, which continuously updates the geographic database and enables automated verification of building requirements and the spatial location of land parcels.

He noted that the most significant expected outcomes of using this system are that it allows citizens and engineering firms to view and familiarize themselves with the city’s base map in its entirety, including municipal and neighborhood boundaries, streets, and major roads, as well as enabling all users to view approved plans, land parcels, and the instructions and requirements specific to the plan and building regulations for the parcel—including height, setbacks, and building coverage—which gives citizens a complete picture of their land parcel before they begin architectural design work for their site.
