some of its iron products, including 8 and 10 mm sizes by 100 riyals per ton, where the price increased from 1850 riyals per ton to 1950 riyals per ton, while other types of 12, 14 and 16 mm sizes maintained their previous prices at 1880 riyals per ton.
Observers expect that the quantities of imported steel arriving in the Kingdom represent a major challenge to the local product, with the presence of dumping in imported steel at prices much lower than the local at rates ranging from 12 to 15%, representing about 200 riyals per ton, which pushed the steel industry to further decline during the past period, which made the national steel factories demand the Ministry of Commerce to impose protection fees for the steel industries.
It is worth noting that the Saudi steel factories have suffered great losses as most factories are currently selling at the cost of production if not less, and if the current conditions continue, many factories may resort to closing some production lines or closing completely, which leads to laying off workers and thus causing serious damage to the national industry.
