Makkah has achieved 50th place globally and third locally after Riyadh in the list of Smart Cities for the year 2026 according to the International Institute for Management Development (IMD).<His Excellency the Secretary of the Holy Capital, Musaed bin Abdulaziz Al-Dawood, emphasized that the advanced ranking achieved by Makkah reflects the qualitative development witnessed by the city in the path of digital transformation, by improving public services by relying on modern technologies, increasing the efficiency of resources, and enhancing community participation, which contributes to providing sustainable solutions that meet the needs of residents and visitors.<Al-Dawood explained that this classification comes as a continuation of the great support given by the wise leadership to the development projects in Makkah, and its continuous directives towards enhancing its status as a smart and global destination, in line with the objectives of sustainable development, and upgrading the quality of life for residents and visitors.
He drew attention that the Municipality continues to implement digital transformation initiatives and develop the technical infrastructure, to enhance the efficiency of municipal services and raise the level of satisfaction of beneficiaries, stressing that this achievement is an incentive to continue working to achieve the aspirations of the leadership in developing services provided to guests of Allah and residents of the Holy Capital.
