14 % Cement sales in Saudi Arabia fell last month

The sector has seen a decline in production and exports since the beginning of 2026 after a strong 2025, with a construction slowdown and geopolitical influences.

Domestic cement sales fell to about 4 million tons, compared to 4.7 million tons during May last year, a decrease of 14.2% compared to the same period last year, according to data from the monthly report issued by Al Yamamah Company. According to the data, exports of cement and clinker also decreased to 589 thousand tons compared to 656 thousand tons a year ago, down by 10.2% compared to May 2025.


The volume of cement production declined
The production volume of cement companies operating in the Kingdom, of which there are 17 companies, decreased to about 4.2 million tons last May, compared to about 4.8 million tons in the same month last year.8 million tons in the same month of 2025, representing a decrease of 13.5%.
The report attributes this performance to the coincidence of May with the Hajj season and Eid al-Adha, which led to a relative slowdown in some construction activities and implementation rates of projects, in addition to the repercussions of geopolitical tensions in the region, which affected exports to a number of regional markets.

In terms of performance since the beginning of the year, the data showed that the sector was unable to maintain the levels of activity recorded during the past year, as the total production of companies during the period from January to May 2026 amounted to 21.6 million tons, compared to 22.6 million tons during the same period in 2025, a decrease of 4.3%.
Domestic sales during the first five months of the year fell to 20.8 million tons compared to 21.8 million tons for the same period last year, down 4.6%, while exports fell further to 2.6 million tons from 3.9 million tons, down 20.7%.

Strong performance last year
This decline comes after an exceptional year in which the sector achieved strong performance, as Saudi cement companies ended 2025 with remarkable growth rates in production, sales and exports. Domestic sales increased by 11% compared to 2024, production increased by 10.4%, and exports recorded strong growth of 19.7%.
The sector's surge during 2025 was driven by growing demand resulting from mega projects associated with Saudi Vision 2030, accelerated activity in the real estate development market, and increased external demand for Saudi cement in a number of regional markets.

The decline comes after an exceptional year in which the sector achieved strong performance, with Saudi cement companies ending 2025 with remarkable growth rates.
