The Eastern Province Municipality is implementing a number of development and service projects in Al-Khafji Governorate, with the aim of developing the road network, improving the efficiency of infrastructure and improve quality of life.

Faisal Al-Zahrani, the Secretariat’s official spokesperson, explained that the Makkah Street development project is considered vital for improving traffic flow, as it extends from King Salman bin Abdulaziz Roundabout to Al-Aqwas Roundabout, with a length of 3,500 meters and a width of 11 meters in both directions, The work includes removing the existing asphalt layers and repaving, as well as constructing 4-meter-wide sidewalks on the median strip to improve the urban landscape and enhance traffic safety.
In the area of stormwater drainage, work in the Al-Khuzami neighborhood was completed by connecting the discharge line to Pumping Station No. 2, as well as the maintenance and operation of the pumps, in addition to the construction of a new 500-meter-long network with 1,600-millimeter-diameter pipes to connect 18th Street to the drainage station. The project also included the construction of 8 inspection chambers with diameters of 2,000 mm and the installation of 7 stormwater traps to enhance the network’s efficiency and reduce water pooling.
The municipality is also continuing to implement the Al-Jawhara Intersection Development Project to improve traffic flow and connect the Al-Jawhara Al-Khafji Housing District with other neighborhoods. This includes the construction of a 76-meter-diameter at-grade roundabout at the intersection of King Fahd Road and the Al-Khafji-Dammam International Road – Dammam, and the rehabilitation of the main road leading to the neighborhood, which is 1,600 meters long and 10 meters wide, in the direction of the neighborhood’s exit.

The project also includes the construction of a 400-meter-long, 12-meter-wide extension of King Fahd Road west of the Al-Khafji International Road in both directions. Earthwork has been fully completed, and work on the crushed stone base layers is ongoing, with the completion rate reaching approximately 30%.

Al-Zahrani emphasized that projects will continue to be implemented in accordance with the highest technical and engineering standards to develop infrastructure and improve the road network and municipal services in support of development and the achievement of quality-of-life goals.
