The Saudi Contractors Authority has released its monthly report “Overview of Construction Sector Projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for May 2026."
The report revealed that May recorded the highest value of projects awarded so far in 2026, with a total value exceeding 30 billion riyals, through 18 projects awarded in various regions of the Kingdom, while April had the highest number of projects, with 23.
The report noted that the infrastructure sector led all sectors in terms of financial value and number of projects during May, with 10 projects worth over 25 billion riyals, accounting for 55% of the total number of projects awarded, followed by the industry and Construction with 17% each, then the water and energy sector with 11%.
Geographic Distribution of Projects
In terms of geographic distribution, the report showed that the Makkah region received the largest share in terms of the number of projects, with 7 projects representing 39% of the total projects, while the Asir region led in terms of total project value, exceeding 18 billion riyals, followed by the Riyadh region with a value exceeding 8 billion riyals.
The report included a list of the largest projects by value during the month of May, led by the Asir- Jazan Expressway in the infrastructure sector, along with the Sheikh Jaber Al-Sabah Road in the Riyadh region, and other notable projects in the construction, infrastructure, and water sectors.
The report also noted that the top entities in terms of project value included the Ministry of Transport, the National Privatization Center, and the Asir Region Development Authority through a joint project valued at over 18 billion riyals.
Projects Expected in June
Regarding projects expected in June 2026, the report indicated that 20 projects are expected to be awarded, more than 47% of which are in the construction and infrastructure sector, with about half of these projects concentrated in the Eastern Province and the Riyadh region. It is expected that the project owners will include the Public Investment Fund, Al-Khafji Joint Operations, the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, Saudi Aramco, Baoshan Iron & Steel Company, and the Royal Saudi Land Forces.
The report included a section on the projected gross domestic product (GDP) figures for the first quarter of 2026, based on a study conducted by the Saudi Contractors Authority in 2025.
Estimates indicate that GDP could reach between 1.18 and 1.35 trillion riyals, while the non-oil sector is expected to range between 636 and 746 billion riyals.
Forecasts indicate that the construction sector’s contribution will range between 81 and 106 billion riyals during the same period.
