The the Asir Region Secretariat has confirmed that projects to humanize roads and public facilities and improve the urban landscape have become a cornerstone in raising quality of life and revitalizing economic and commercial activity in the region’s cities and governorates, as part of its ongoing efforts to develop the urban environment and enhance the experience of residents and visitors.
His Excellency Engineer Abdullah Al-Jali, Secretary of the Asir Region, explained that the Secretariat began implementing urban landscape improvement projects in 2022, including the development of roads, sidewalks, lighting, public facilities, and human-centered elements, making these areas more pedestrian-friendly, safer, and more vibrant, and contributing to enhancing the appeal of tourist and commercial destinations.

Al-Jali noted that urban humanization projects are no longer limited to aesthetic aspects, but have become an active factor in supporting the local economy and stimulating commercial activity by enhancing the efficiency of public spaces and improving the user experience in urban and tourist areas.
He noted that the Municipality has implemented these projects in a number of cities, governorates, and centers in the Asir region, including Abha, Khamis Mushait, Mahayil, Bisha, Al-Majardah, and Sarat Abidah, as well as several other provinces and towns, thereby contributing to the improvement of the urban landscape, enhancing the quality of life, and boosting commercial activity in those locations.
Al-Jali added that the development of roads, public facilities, lighting, and walkways directly supports the tourist season by providing a more organized and comfortable urban environment and enhancing the readiness of these locations to accommodate the growing number of visitors during the summer season.

These projects are part of a comprehensive initiative being carried out by the Municipality in coordination with the Asir Development Authority to develop infrastructure and municipal services and improve the efficiency of public facilities in line with the tourism and investment growth the region is experiencing.
