During the first half of 2026, the Al-Ahsa Municipality issued (869) building permits compliant with the requirements of Saudi architecture within the scope of the “Al-Ahsa Oasis Architecture” initiative. These included residential, commercial, and government permits, in a move that reflects the Secretariat’s commitment to implementing the objectives of the National Urban Identity and enhancing the quality of the urban environment.
The issuance of these permits is an extension of the Municipality’s efforts to implement the principles of Saudi architecture, which aim to build an integrated urban environment inspired by Al-Ahsa’s local identity, and striking a balance between tradition and modernity, thereby contributing to the creation of higher-quality and more sustainable cities, in line with the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 to develop the urban landscape and improve the quality of life.
The Municipality’s official spokesperson, Khalid bin Muhammad Bouwashal, emphasized that the Municipality operates according to an urban planning system based on contemporary designs that meet future needs and preserve the urban character of Al-Ahsa, while adopting sustainable urban practices that take environmental considerations into account, thereby enhancing the sustainability of cities and conserving their resources.
He explained that the application of Saudi architectural requirements to buildings represents an important milestone in the journey of urban development, as it contributes to reshaping the urban landscape to reflect national identity, elevates the aesthetic and functional standards of cities, and provides more integrated and suitable urban environments for residents.
He noted that the design guidelines for Saudi architecture represent a comprehensive framework of standards and guidelines that regulate design and construction processes, thereby reinforcing the presence of local character in urban projects and achieving harmony between architectural heritage and modern development.
