The Hanakiya Power Plant (1) solar power plant is one of the projects under the National Renewable Energy Program overseen by the Ministry of Energy. The project has a capacity of 1,100 megawatts, enough to supply approximately 190,000 homes with electricity annually.
The plant, which began operations in the summer of 2025, is located south of Al-Hanakiyah Governorate in the Madinah region, while the feed-in tariff electricity produced at the plant is 1.68420 U.S. cents per kilowatt-hour, underscoring the competitiveness of renewable energy projects in the Kingdom and their ability to achieve globally competitive electricity production prices. The project is part of the Kingdom’s efforts to expand the use of renewable energy sources and energy storage systems, support the targets of the Liquid Fuel Displacement Program, and reduce emissions.

The Al-Hanakiyah (1) project is also one of the projects in Phase 4 of the National Renewable Energy Program, and aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to increase the share of renewable energy and energy storage systems to approximately 50% of the energy mix for electricity generation by 2030, in line with the growth in electricity demand, supports the diversification of energy sources, and enhances energy security and sustainability.

It is worth noting that the Saudi Power Procurement Company (the main purchaser) is responsible for preparing preliminary studies, tendering electricity generation projects, and signing power purchase agreements and energy storage service agreements with developer consortia.
