The Contractors Committee of the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and the Saudi Council of Engineers are preparing to form a joint working group tasked with unifying views on issues of mutual interest and reaching a harmonious, balanced, and constructive consensus between contractors and engineering consulting firms , representing the professional engineering perspective on the one hand and the commercial perspective on the other.
This decision came during a recent joint meeting between the Contractors Committee of the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Saudi Council of Engineers, attended by the Council’s Chairman, Engineer Hamad Nasser Al-Shawawi, and senior officials at the Council’s headquarters in Riyadh.
For his part, Mr. Fahad Al-Hammadi, a member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Chamber’s Contractors Committee, that the meeting discussed a number of topics related to the contracting sector and common issues, foremost among which was cooperation between the Committee and the Society to present a shared understanding of the causes of project delays, and ways to improve the work of consulting firms so they can play a complementary role alongside contractors. This would be achieved by seeking to rectify the current state of the relationship among the contracting parties in project execution(the owner, the consultant, and the contractor). The attendees agreed on the need to develop a proposal from both sides that clarifies the boundaries of the relationship among all parties to avoid negative consequences.
