All preparations have been completed for the launch of the “Jeddah Business Forum” on April 20, now in its third edition, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Governor of the Makkah Region, The forum will be opened by His Royal Highness Prince Mishaal bin Majid and organized by the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, represented by the Strategic Trade Committee, with support from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry as a strategic partner, and in collaboration with the College of Economics and Administration at King Abdulaziz University as a knowledge partner.
Titled “Empowering Domestic Trade with Global Competitiveness Standards,” the forum will host, over the course of five sessions, featuring a distinguished panel of speakers who will discuss a number of important topics centered on fronting and its implications, as well as ways to address it—as represented by the Academic Chair of His Royal Highness Prince Mishaal bin Majid at King Abdulaziz University— as well as Saudization policies, the skills gap in the labor market, mediation as an alternative dispute resolution method, the competitiveness of Saudi ports and transportation logistics, and fair competition in light of the growing prevalence of practices harmful to the Saudi and Gulf economies and trade.
Saleh Kamel, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said: The fact that the forum, now in its third year, addressed issues of front companies reaffirms the outcomes of the Prince Mishaal bin Majid Chair on Front Companies, which can produce optimal solutions in cooperation with partners to combat this phenomenon—one that has become a major source of concern for a large segment of the population It places economic pressure on them and has created an unequal competitive environment.
For her part, Nashwa Abdulhadi Taher, Chair of the Strategic Trade Committee at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chair of the Jeddah Trade Forum, considered the forum an extension and continuation of previous forums, adding: The forum was launched in 2009 as a collaboration between the government sector, the private sector, and the Shura Council, and in its second edition, it continued to lay the essential foundations through ongoing coordination between the private and public sectors, translating theories into practical application on the ground.
It should be noted that the Jeddah Commercial Forum is held every two years in the city of Jeddah and brings together the country’s most prominent officials from the government, private, and public sectors, as well as merchants, businesswomen, and businessmen, to discuss the concerns and problems of merchants—an important segment of Saudi society—and address their issues, Each year, the forum addresses several issues over the course of two days, culminating in recommendations that are presented to decision-makers across all sectors.
