The Ministry of Housing has announced that it is currently working to regulate real estate agencies, a process expected to take approximately three months. It noted that the online registration of lease agreements will begin after that,

The General Supervisor of the “Ijar” program at the Ministry of Housing, Engineer Muhammad bin Saleh Al-Bati, explained that the lease registration phase will be implemented gradually, starting with the Eastern Province and then the rest of the Kingdom.

It is worth noting that the Ministry recently launched a program that governs the “Ijar” system, regulating the relationship between the landlord and the tenant by documenting the lease agreement, and connects real estate offices across the Kingdom via a dedicated technical network, providing tenant information and credit history regarding rent payments and defaults, as well as payment schedules—whether monthly, semi-annual, or annual—along with six other services.

Through its online platform, “Ijar” provides a standardized, notarized contract agreed upon by the landlord and tenant to facilitate the conclusion and notarization of the contract. Its wording can be updated to ensure that the model electronic contract is enforceable in court.
