The King Abdulaziz Road project in Makkah has involved the removal of 3626 properties in five informal neighborhoods. The road will be one of the modern landmarks of the holy capital, and after its completion, it will bring a comprehensive transformation in transportation in the city of Makkah, providing easy transportation services for pilgrims and visitors of the Grand Mosque coming to and leaving Makkah alike.

Completion of the project in 2019

On the same subject, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Emir of Makkah and Chairman of the Makkah Development Authority, expressed his interest in the King Abdulaziz Road project in Makkah, which will make a qualitative leap in the traffic flow map in Makkah. According to the companies implementing the project, which is supervised by the Makkah Development Authority, work is proceeding according to the specified schedule and the project will be completed by the end of 2019.

Start work on designs and implementation

The presentation showed that the companies have also started designing parking lots below the level of the pedestrian corridor, public transport bus stops, the 7.2 km metro tunnel, three metro stations, King Abdullah Mosque Square, parking lots under the mosque and service networks.

The road is being implemented in three phases, the first of which includes three sub-phases consisting of the area west of Jabal Omar project until Jarham Street, with a total area estimated at 176 thousand square meters, and this phase includes the area of Al Zaharin neighborhood located west of Abdullah Arif Street until the third ring road, with a total area estimated at 289 thousand square meters, as well as the area of King Abdullah Mosque, with a total area estimated at 130 thousand square meters.

The second phase consists of three sub-phases represented in the area west of Jabal Omar project until Jarham Street, with a total area of about 176 thousand square meters. The second phase is the implementation of the southern road of the project, with a total area estimated at 226 thousand square meters, and the third phase is to complete the removal of the rest of the properties in the project from King Abdullah Mosque to Jarhum Street in the east, and from King Abdullah Mosque to Abdullah Arif Street in the west.
