Najib Mohammed Al Ali, CEO of the Expo 2020 Bureau, revealed that the exhibition aims to attract more than 180 countries, noting that «more than 170 countries have confirmed their commitment to participate,» Luxembourg laid the cornerstone for its pavilion at the «Expo 2020 Dubai» site, becoming the first foreign country to begin construction, and announced the design of its pavilion, which will showcase its commitment to innovation and sustainable development.
Al-Ali noted that hosting «Expo 2020 Dubai» plays a vital role in supporting economic growth in the region, as it will help create more job opportunities through related infrastructure projects and site preparation, for which 33 billion dirhams (about $9 billion) have been allocated, in addition to the «Expo Live,» dedicated to supporting innovation in the region and around the world.
Regarding the scale of investments, Al Ali confirmed that an increasing number of countries have announced their investments in «Expo 2020 Dubai.» Germany has announced an investment of 50 million euros (213.5 million dirhams), Luxembourg 25 million euros, Austria 16.45 million euros (70 million dirhams), and Switzerland 14.84 million Swiss francs (57 million dirhams).
According to a report by the «MEED» Foundation, 12 countries have begun designing their pavilions and issuing tenders to contractors in preparation for construction, which may begin by the end of this year. The cost of a single pavilion ranges from $20 million to $50 million, depending on its size and interior design.
