According to reports from the Ministry of Housing, the ministry is facing a shortage of residential land in major cities (Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam) as the number of housing applicants continues to grow. prompting the Ministry to seek solutions it considers positive at this stage. The solution involves vertical expansion of the Ministry’s housing projects. Sources indicate that the Ministry will partner with the private sector—specifically real estate investment and development companies—to help provide housing.
In line with the principle of transparency to which the Ministry of Housing is committed, it announced earlier that more than 100,000 citizens are eligible for housing assistance in the city of Riyadh alone, According to sources, the number of currently available plots does not exceed 2,200, the allocation of which has begun; these are located west of King Khalid International Airport. The original plan for the project—on which work began about two years ago—had included approximately 6,000 plots, before roughly half of the project was set aside for Saudi Aramco due to its proximity to a gas pipeline, which made it more difficult to secure the required land in the capital.
In Jeddah, there are more than 10,000 available plots distributed across two projects on which work began about two years ago; one is located in the Prince Fawaz neighborhood and the other on Airport Road, while no other projects have yet begun within the province, The situation is not much different in the city of Dammam, which has only 12,312 plots of land within two adjacent projects located at one of the city’s entrances.
