The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing has launched an awareness campaign aimed at highlighting the importance of fencing off residential construction sites in all neighborhoods of cities and governorates and its role in improving the urban landscape and ensuring the safety of pedestrians and road users from ongoing construction work on the ground, with mandatory implementation set to begin at the start of the upcoming Hijri year 1444 AH.
The fencing of residential construction sites aims to protect the streets and roads surrounding the land designated for construction, by erecting a temporary fence around the entire lot, which allows the building owner and contractor to store construction materials to protect and preserve them. The fence also helps ensure the safety of pedestrians and road users from ongoing construction activities on the site.
Through this initiative, the Ministry seeks to regulate construction sites and enhance the visual appeal of city streets and neighborhoods by maintaining their exterior appearance, by establishing technical specifications for fencing requirements at residential construction sites and supporting the Urban Landscape Improvement Initiative, which aims to remove the most common sources of visual pollution in the Kingdom’s cities.
The Ministry urges landowners and contractors wishing to begin construction to promptly erect temporary fences in accordance with the approved specifications and requirements, to avoid violations and fines, as compliance will become mandatory starting at the beginning of the upcoming Hijri year 1444 AH.
