National Day... Pride Through the Ages

Abdulrahman Hamad Daqdaqi

Starting with the 75th National Day, it became an official national holiday during the reign of King Abdullah

Every year, we celebrate a cherished and beloved anniversary that is dear to our hearts: National Day, which the citizens of this country—from all walks of life—welcome with love and deepened loyalty, as celebrations of this day, forever etched in memory, spread far and wide across the country, and on which our country commemorates the unification of the Kingdom, recalling that glorious day when the royal decree was issued by the late Founder, King Abdulaziz —may God have mercy on him—No. 2716 on the 17th of Jumada al-Awwal 1351 AH, corresponding to September 23, 1932 CE, which decreed the change of the state’s name from the Kingdom of Hejaz and Najd and its dependencies to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and in the years since then, citizens have continued to celebrate the country’s National Day every year at this time.

In 2005 CE, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz—may God have mercy on him—decreed that, starting with the 75th Saudi National Day, it would become an official national holiday, National Day celebrations feature a variety of events held throughout the Kingdom, including fireworks, concerts, festivals, international performances, gatherings, and more, Thus, the celebration of National Day has come to reflect the many achievements our country has made across various fields. During the era of resolve, determination, goodness, and prosperity—the reign of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz—may God preserve him—an official slogan was launched for the first time in 2018 to celebrate this anniversary; the Saudi Ministry of Media, represented by the Government Communications Center, unveiled the identity and slogan for the Kingdom’s 88th National Day, with the slogan titled «For Glory and Excellence.» On the occasion of the 89th National Day, the General Entertainment Authority launched the identity for the 89th National Day under the slogan «Determination to the Top,» and on the occasion of the 90th National Day, the General Entertainment Authority launched a unified verbal and visual media identity under the slogan «Determination to the Summit,» inspired by a quote from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman—may God protect him—«The determination of the Saudis is like Mount Tuwaiq.».

This year, on August 21, 2021, marks the 91st National Day, with the slogan «It Is Our Home.» Saudi National Day arrives as the Kingdom continues on its path toward achieving numerous milestones under the Vision 2030 program, which was launched during the reign of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz —may God protect him—. This vision aims to promote economic growth in all sectors and achieve development across all social, cultural, and other spheres.
