With the trial operation of the Northern Railway set to begin next June, the Saudi Railway Company (SAR) announced that it has completed all preparations for the trial run. Sources reported that the daytime train has a capacity of 444 seats and is 280 meters long, consisting of two locomotives and nine cars of various types: four economy-class cars, three business-class cars, a snack car, and a baggage car. The night train, meanwhile, has a capacity of 377 seats and is 383 meters long. It consists of two locomotives and 13 cars of various types: three economy-class cars, one business-class car, three sleeper cars, four car transport cars, a snack car, and a baggage car. Passengers can check their luggage at the passenger station upon departure and retrieve it from the “conveyor belts” in the arrivals hall.
The company confirmed that all its day and night trains are technically and design-wise identical, capable of operating at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour, adding that it has prioritized the needs of seniors and passengers with special needs in the design of its trains, starting from the moment they board by ensuring the train floor is level with station platforms to facilitate boarding and alighting without the need to use stairs, in addition to spacious restrooms equipped with special facilities. The company has also ensured the allocation of prayer areas and the provision of large screens in the aisles to indicate the direction of the Qibla and display trip information.
