His Royal Highness Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Governor of the Makkah Region, inaugurated the Ministry of Housing’s residential apartment exhibition at the Hira International Market, which will run for one month. The opening ceremony was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Mishaal bin Majid, Governor of Jeddah, and Dr. Essam bin Saeed, Minister of Housing.
The Minister of Housing considered the event a signal to launch a competitive bidding process among companies to implement the housing project located north of King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah, emphasizing that all housing projects during the current period have been transferred to private-sector real estate developers. He explained that their new approach is not to search for land but rather to coordinate with real estate developers.
Jeddah Housing (1) and (2)
Dr. Essam bin Saeed, Minister of Housing, presented an overview of the Jeddah (1) Airport Housing Project, located north of Jeddah Airport next to the new King Abdullah Stadium and bordered on the east by Al-Haramain Road. with an area of 1,999,999 m². It was designed and planned to accommodate 4,200 housing units, and the project is expected to house approximately 23,331 residents, while a contract has been awarded for the construction of the infrastructure, in addition to the Jeddah Housing Project (2), located next to the Prince Fawaz neighborhood south of Jeddah on an area of 5,697,663 m2 The project was designed and planned to include areas capable of accommodating buildings comprising 10,630 residential units of appropriate sizes, with a population capacity of approximately 58,358 people, and includes electricity, water, and sewage networks, sidewalks, paved roads, street lighting, and parks .
Contractor Delays
Bin Saeed said, “One of the challenges facing the ministry is delays on the part of contractors, in accordance with the government procurement bidding system. There are strict procedures imposed on them, making it difficult for contractors to complete projects within the timeframes specified by the system,” Regarding people with special needs and the families of martyrs, he explained that coordination will take place with the Ministry of Social Affairs to identify them and find housing for them in accordance with the agreement and coordination between the two parties, He added that, with regard to the families of martyrs, certain conditions and criteria have been adopted, and priority has been given to them in benefiting from the housing support project. The Minister of Housing stated that the completion period for housing projects in Jeddah Province is two years.
