His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Salman, Governor of the Madinah Region, announced that expansion projects worth 500 billion Saudi riyals ($133.3 billion) are proceeding as planned. Prince Faisal said that the construction projects include the building of an annex to the Prophet’s Mosque, as well as various health care and security projects, all of which have been approved by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman.

He added that officials in Madinah have formed a committee to implement and monitor all projects in the city. The committee’s role is to ensure that all contractors working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are committed to respecting and protecting the Islamic architectural heritage of Madinah.

Prince Faisal said that Islamic sites and treasures are being cared for by the General Authority for Tourism and National Heritage. Earlier this year, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques approved the Darb al-Sunnah project, which was developed under the auspices of the Madinah Development Authority.

Prince Faisal expressed his gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman, for approving the development of a 3-kilometer area located between the Prophet’s Mosque and the Quba Mosque.

Prince Faisal added that the project takes into account the palm groves surrounding the mosque, which will provide recreational facilities for visitors and residents.
