The National Water Company confirmed that the water meter registration initiative ensures that the meter is linked to the actual beneficiary—whether an owner or a tenant—and protects their rights, helping them manage all services associated with their account, in addition to ensuring the continuity of services provided to them, enabling the company to communicate directly with them, and sending notifications related to their account.
The company explained that meter registration allows the actual beneficiary to request services, track their status through digital channels, and receive bills and text messages related to their meter, The beneficiary can also view their account details, monitor their consumption, and receive notifications in the event of an increase.
It explained that the meter can be easily verified by logging in via the National Water Company app or the online portal, then selecting the account or accounts to be verified, and specifying the customer’s current relationship to the account—whether as the owner or the beneficiary. If the account has not been added, the property owner can add their meter and specify their current relationship to it in a few simple steps. She noted that if the account appears in the beneficiary’s account and they can view its details, it is considered verified. and if the existing account has no connection to the customer, the “Not Mine” option should be selected.
The National Water Companystated: “Verifying the water meter ensures the rights of everyone, whether owners or tenants, and that after the expiration or termination of a lease for properties with independent meters, the water meter reverts to the owner’s name, As for properties with multiple residential units, the owners must form a homeowners” association and appoint a representative to register the meter.” It clarified that if there is a group of tenants in a single property with a shared meter, the meter remains registered to the property owner; and if the meter is registered in the name of a deceased person, the legal representative of the heirs must register the meter by adding the account and attaching the power of attorney.
The company clarified that if the registration request is for a tenant in a property with a separate meter, it will be registered on the Ejar platform, emphasizing that the meter will automatically revert to the owner’s name upon the lease’s expiration, noting that the documents required for the registration process from property owners are proof of property ownership.
It also noted that failure to register meters will affect the continuity of service provided to the beneficiary, and that the registration process will be mandatory for rented properties, emphasizing that registering the meter and linking it to the tenant will eliminate financial disputes between landlords and tenants.”
The company noted that all its official channels are available to serve customers around the clock and assist them with the water meter registration process, whether through its app or its online portal (e.nwc.com.sa).
