“Tourism Authority launches the first index of hotel and guesthouse prices

Posted in

The General Authority for Tourism and National Heritage has launched the pilot version of the electronic system for the Kingdom’s hotel price index. The service includes a price index for hotel rooms, with rates entered directly by the hotels themselves, (lowest price, average, highest price), enabling consumers to get an idea of average prices before booking. In addition to the "price rate," the system provides a number of indicators related to hotel operations that are visible only to specialists at the Authority. These indicators are used to monitor, coordinate, and develop operations, as well as to understand market trends. They include: occupancy rate, revenue per available room, revenue per available room, revenue per available room, and total revenue for all available rooms.

His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Chairman of the Authority, launched the website in the presence of members of the Authority’s Board of Directors, This online service is one of the new services the Authority offers to consumers as part of the advanced e-services system it provides to the sector through its websites.

The website is expected to provide important services to the real estate sector by providing hotel price averages as an indicator that helps users identify hotel prices and compare them with the services offered according to their classifications. The price index system will be implemented in several phases, starting with five- and four-star hotels, until the completion of the main, comprehensive price index project on which the Authority is working under the supervision of the Tourism Information and Research Center (MAS) at the Authority, which will cover the prices of all services provided by tourism activities overseen by the Authority.
