“Statistics”: 63% hotel room occupancy rate in the first quarter of 2025

The average daily rate in hotels fell 3.4% to around 477 riyals, and the total employment in the sector rose 4.1%.

The room occupancy rate in Hotels increased during the first quarter of (2025), (2.(1) percentage points from the corresponding quarter of (2024), to reach (63%), while the room occupancy rate in serviced apartments and other hospitality facilities in the same quarter amounted to (50.7%), a decrease of (3.8) percentage points from the corresponding quarter of (2024).
According to the Tourism Establishment Statistics Bulletin for the first quarter of 2025 issued by the General Authority for Statistics, the average daily room rate in hotels amounted to about (477) Saudi riyals, a decrease of (3.4%) compared to the first quarter of last year, and the average daily room rate in serviced apartments and other hospitality facilities recorded about (209) riyals during the same quarter, an increase of (7.2%) compared to the same period last year.
According to the results, the average length of stay of a guest in hotels reached (4.1) nights during the first quarter of 2025, the same average in the same quarter of 2024, and the average length of stay of a guest in serviced apartments and other hospitality facilities recorded (2.1) nights during the same quarter, a decrease of (4.5%) compared to the same quarter of 2024.
According to the bulletin, the total number of people employed in tourism activities increased during this quarter from the similar quarter of (2024) to (983,253), with an increase of (4.1%), while the number of Saudi employees reached (243,369) employees, with a participation rate of (24.8%) of the total, while non-Saudi employees reached (739,884) employees with a participation rate of (75.2%) of the total employees in tourism activities.

It also showed that the number of male workers in tourism activities (853,852) with a participation rate equivalent to (86.8%) of the total, and the number of female workers in tourism activities (129,401) with a participation rate of (13.2%) of the total workers in tourism activities during the first quarter of (2025 AD).
The results of the bulletin showed that the percentage of those employed in tourism activities amounted to (5.4%) of the total employed in the economy during the first quarter of (2025), a decrease of (0.3) percentage points from the corresponding quarter of (2024), and the percentage of those employed in tourism activities amounted to (8.1%) of the total employed in the private sector, a decrease of (0.6) percentage points from the first quarter of (2024).
