Both the Saudi Railway Company and the General Investment Authority are preparing to launch a project to manufacture train cars and spare parts locally as a first step, and then to gradually expand in this industry until trains are fully manufactured in the Kingdom. Both entities are currently working to identify investment opportunities to localize certain industries related to the railway sector .

The General President of the Saudi Railway Company, Eng. Mohammed Al-Suwaiqat, explained that this initiative is part of the company’s strategic plan to connect the Kingdom’s regions via rail, and in line with the Kingdom’s overall policy to localize a number of industries, a task force has been formed with the Investment Authority to develop a roadmap for the implementation of this ambitious and massive project, .

For his part, the Governor of the General Investment Authority, Eng. Abdul Latif Al-Othman , said, “Government spending on the transportation sector is very significant, and we are working with the Ministry of Transportation on metro projects, and we are also working with the railways to localize the train industry in service-related aspects through project management and other areas, as well as in the technical aspect of manufacturing certain train parts, navigation and control devices, wheels, and spare parts.
