Discusses the application of smart cities. International Road Federation's Middle East Regional Conference opens

Under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may God protect him, the Fourth Regional Conference of the International Road Federation for the Middle East, organized by the Ministry of Transport in cooperation with the International Road Federation (IRF), will be inaugurated today. The conference will last for three days at the King Faisal Conference Hall in the Intercontinental Hotel in Riyadh.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport for Roads and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Engineer Hathloul bin Hussein Al-Hathlool, explained that holding these conferences generates scientific and practical relationships, research groups are formed, and there is a wide field for exchanging experiences.

Engineer Al-Hathlool explained that the conference discusses three important technical topics: ways to achieve security and safety on roads through the preparation of appropriate designs that meet safety requirements to reduce traffic accidents, pavement layer technologies and management and their role in achieving sound infrastructure, and transportation in urban areas and solutions for mobility and providing infrastructure and services for smart transportation.

The conference also includes key dialogue sessions discussing the application of smart cities and transferring this concept to actual application and working to reduce deaths and serious injuries in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and multiple topics presented through (13) sessions and (44) working papers in aspects of research and development, geotechnical engineering and materials required for road construction, building technologies and innovations, the use of fibers and rubber granules in asphalt mixtures, road safety management and traffic safety and work in areas and on the sides of roads, urban planning and mass transit.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport for Roads concluded his statement by noting that such conferences are a suitable opportunity for those interested and specialized in this field, including contractors, consultants, and project engineers, to attend and contribute to the activities of this conference.
