Monitoring committees to follow up on stalled projects in Makkah

The first monitoring tours of the project follow-up committee ordered by His Royal Highness Prince Mishaal bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Emir of Makkah, began yesterday, in light of the noticeable increase in the rate of project failure in the cities and governorates of the region, which reached about 60% in general on all service projects, public facilities and others.

Three field teams have been formed in each of Jeddah, Makkah and Taif. <Three field teams were formed in Jeddah, Makkah and Taif, where the teams will continue to monitor all the obstacles and reasons that led to the failure of these vital projects. The head of the field team responsible for Makkah's projects and the acting director of the Follow-up and Projects Department in the Emirate of the region, Engineer Majdi Zubaidi, explained that the team started its work in following up the stalled projects, where all the sites of those projects located within the scope of the team will be visited, where the reasons and obstacles that led to the stumbling or stopping the project will be discussed.

<The most prominent obstacles facing these projects is the lack of coordination in moving the main axes of services such as water pipes, telephone and electricity lines, where coordination will be made with all participating parties and work to find the appropriate solution for each project facing an issue in this regard. Engineer Majdi Zubaidi explained that the field team tasked with following up the projects is made up of several government and private entities, where a representative from each of the Municipality of the Holy Capital, the Geological Survey, the Ministry of Transport, Health, Electricity, the National Water Company, Traffic, and other related parties, where an expanded meeting is held with all participants after each tour, where an integrated report on the tour is prepared and the views and recommendations are submitted to the Chairman of the Follow-up Committee for Stalled Projects in the Regional Council Dr. Fouad Ghazali.

The engineer explained that the field team tasked with following up the projects is made up of several government and private entities. <Engineer Zubaidi explained that the work of the committee and its teams is not limited only to service projects that belong to a specific entity, but includes all projects, including health and educational projects, road projects and everything related to serving citizens, visitors and pilgrims. <He pointed out that the committee will work to visit the governorates of the Makkah region after completing the follow-up of projects in the main cities. He pointed out that the role of the committee is to work to overcome all obstacles and causes that lead to the failure of the project and find the appropriate mechanism to overcome them, through full coordination with all participating parties, and in the event of an intractable issue, the matter is raised to the head of the committee to discuss it with the regional council and communicate with the concerned authorities in this matter. The work of the follow-up team included visiting the third ring road project and its ancillary projects, water projects, and one of the service projects of the Makkah Development Authority.
