The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques inaugurates the Kingdom's newest stadiums in Jeddah

King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz—may God protect him—inaugurated King Abdullah Sports City (The Shining Jewel) in Jeddah during halftime of the King’s Cup final match between Al-Ahli and Al-Shabab on May 1, 2014. Addressing the Saudi people as he received the “Shining Ball,” the King said: ”I congratulate the Saudi people on the opening of this sports city, and I say to you, my beloved ones, that you deserve more and more because your grandparents and parents are the ones who built this country.”
Ali Al-Naimi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and Prince Nawaf bin Faisal, General President of Youth Welfare, delivered speeches on this occasion, before a child approached King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, carrying a glowing ball, and the King declared the new stadium open to the nation’s citizens.The cost of this massive project reached 1.9 billion Saudi riyals, and it features world-class facilities and a stadium with a capacity of more than 60,000 spectators…The Al-Shabab players succeeded in winning the cup and claiming the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Championship.
