His Excellency the Minister of Municipalities and Housing, Mr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Haqeel, confirmed that the donations of «Al Joud from Us and Among Us» campaign during the holy month of Ramadan witnessed wide interaction from various segments of society, after the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques announced a generous donation of SR 150 million on the first night, which greatly stimulated community participation.
Haqeel explained, in statements to Al Arabiya, that the non-profit sector provided a distinctive model in giving, as more than 300 million riyals were collected in one night, raising the total donations so far to more than one billion riyals. He added that the campaign is still halfway through, but it has already managed to achieve more than 80% of the planned goal, which reflects the great interaction and efforts made by Sakan's teams in communicating with different regions of the Kingdom.
The minister pointed out that the past days witnessed intensive activity to communicate with the regions, as the Makkah region recorded donations amounting to about 100 million riyals under the follow-up of the region's emir, and the Eastern Province exceeded 25 million riyals, in addition to remarkable contributions from other regions of the Kingdom, pointing out that all regions are working to participate in this blessed campaign to reach more than 8 thousand housing units to be provided to Saudi families. Al-Haqeel emphasized that the goal of this campaign is to deliver the donations to their beneficiaries as soon as possible, explaining that work is underway to convert these donations into housing projects that benefit the needy in less than a year.
In concluding his remarks, the Minister of Municipalities and Housing thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Highness the Crown Prince for their generous initiative in supporting the campaign since its launch, and appreciated the participation of citizens, major donors, cooperative societies, banks and private companies, who contributed to the success of this blessed campaign during the month of Ramadan.
