The University of Edinburgh in Scotland honored His Royal Highness Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Alwaleed Humanitarian Foundation, with the Award for Excellence in Philanthropy during the first week of May 2016, in recognition of his contribution of more than 8,000,000 pounds sterling to the Alwaleed bin Talal Academic Center for Islamic Studies in the Contemporary World at the University of Edinburgh.

The award was presented by Dr. Sir Timothy O’Shea, Director and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh, in recognition of His Highness’s generous contributions to the university. The ceremony, held at the Savoy Hotel in London, was attended by Her Royal Highness Princess Lamia bint Majid Al Saud, Secretary-General of the Alwaleed Humanitarian Foundation.

The Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Academic Center for Islamic Studies in the Contemporary World is one of the six Prince Alwaleed Academic Centers (the University of Cambridge in the UK, Georgetown University, Harvard University, the American University of Beirut, the American University in Cairo, and the University of Edinburgh in Scotland) supported by the Alwaleed Humanitarian Foundation. It is worth noting that the University of Edinburgh awarded Prince Alwaleed bin Talal an honorary doctorate in 2010.
