The General Authority for Roads stressed the importance of strengthening coordination between the concerned authorities to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Saudi Road Code , by monitoring the application of technical requirements, verifying compliance with the specified standards, and addressing the observations noted on the roads, in order to support the standardization of engineering practices, raise the quality of project implementation and maintenance work, and enhance safety and efficiency levels in the Kingdom’s road network.

The authority explained that measuring compliance with the code depends on a set of technical aspects, including traffic planning and studies, organizing traffic diversions and applying safety requirements, in addition to paints and road markings.

She pointed out that achieving compliance requires including the code requirements in contracts, raising awareness of its requirements, providing the necessary training on them, and disseminating them to contractors and implementers, as well as forming specialized work teams to monitor compliance indicators and address observations continuously.

The Saudi road code provides unified standards

The authority explained that the Saudi Road Code represents a unified technical reference for developing the sector, as it defines the best practices to be followed during the planning, design, implementation, operation and maintenance phases, which contributes to extending the life of assets and infrastructure, improving the efficiency of spending on projects, and raising the level of reliability of the road network.

The code enables stakeholders to benefit from the information, guidelines, technical drawings, procedures, and checklists necessary for planning, designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining roads of all types, taking into account environmental requirements and safety requirements, in order to ensure the application of quality, safety, economic efficiency, and sustainability standards.

The authority stressed that the commitment of all concerned parties to the code requirements is a fundamental pillar for protecting road users and improving the quality of services provided to them, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between government agencies, the private sector and specialists in the field to develop an integrated and more efficient transport system.

A unified regulatory system to improve road efficiency

The authority indicated that the application of the Saudi Road Code supports the achievement of its strategy aimed at building a unified legislative and regulatory system for the sector, by unifying technical and operational standards in various regions of the Kingdom, and enabling road owners to develop their work according to a sustainable methodology that covers the entire road lifecycle, from design and construction to operation and periodic maintenance.

It affirmed its continued efforts to establish a transparent and integrated regulatory framework that ensures policy consistency and promotes compliance with regulations and legislation through flexible and robust mechanisms, in line with its responsibilities in regulating the roads sector and developing the necessary policies and legislation to improve its efficiency.
