Saudi Fund for Development finances major projects abroad with SAR 2.4 billion

The Saudi Fund for Development has achieved many successes during the financing of its foreign programs, where it funded during the past year 2015 about (19) projects and development programs, including 9 programs and projects in Africa and 10 other projects in Asia with a total funding of 2454 million riyals, bringing the total loans and financial contributions provided by the Fund since its establishment until the end of last year to 47 billion riyals allocated to finance 578 projects and development programs injected in various projects all over the Kingdom.

Projects and Programs

The Fund's annual report 1436/1437 AH - 2015 issued recently addressed a number of projects and programs that the Fund contributed to financing, and highlighted its activity in the fields of financing and guaranteeing national exports through the Fund's export program, which reflects the continued pace of support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the people and countries of the world to achieve development goals and advance the national economy other than crude oil.In his presentation of the report, Finance Minister Ibrahim Al-Assaf stressed that the Fund continued its activity and contribution to 82 countries in the world, especially the continents of Africa and Asia, noting that the projects and programs that were funded in 2015 - the year of the report - amounted to 19 development projects and programs in both the continents of Africa and Asia All of them included the sectors of social infrastructure, transportation, communications, energy, agriculture and other sectors, and their lending amounts reached more than 2454 million riyals, bringing the total amount provided by the Fund since its establishment until 2015 to more than 47 billion riyals allocated to finance 578 development projects and programs.

Export Program

The report revealed that during 2015, the Export Program approved 16 export financing operations for national goods with a total amount of more than 8.1 billion riyals, and approved the issuance and renewal of 15 national export guarantee documents with a total value of 2.6 billion riyals, bringing the total approved by the program since its launch in 2001 until 2015 to 287 financing and guarantee operations with a total value of more than 48.5 billion riyals.

Development Support

The report said that in continuation of the role of the Saudi Fund for Development in contributing to supporting development in a number of beneficiary countries around the world from developing countries, the Fund signed 19 loan agreements during the fiscal year 1436/1437 AH 2015 with 15 developing countries with a total value of 2454 million riyals.12 million riyals, to contribute to the financing of 19 development projects and programs, 9 of them in the African continent with a total value of 1181.25 million riyals, and 10 projects in the Asian continent with a total value of 1272.87 million riyals.

About the sectoral distribution of loans signed by the Fund, the report stated that in 2015, it contributed to financing 19 development projects and programs with a total amount of 2454.12 million riyals, indicating that the energy sector had the largest share of the total amount, where 3 projects were financed with a total value of 758.75 million riyals.75 million riyals at 30.92%, followed by the transportation and communications sector, which included 7 projects with a total amount of 647.25 million riyals at 26.37%, the largest sector in terms of the number of funded projects, followed by other sectors, which included 3 projects with a total of 611.25 million riyals at 24.91%.

Social Projects

The social infrastructure sector also included projects, two in the health sector, one in the education sector, and two in the housing and urban development sector for a total of 343.12 million riyals for 13.98%, and the agriculture sector included one project for a total of 93.75 million riyals for 3.82% of the total contributions of the fund.

In terms of co-financing signed loans, the Fund financed 10 development projects and programs in 10 developing countries last year 2015 with the participation of other financiers, with a total contribution of 1482.50 million riyals.Regarding the geographical distribution of the Fund's total projects, the annual report explained the method adopted by the Fund in its development assistance, which focused on underdeveloped and extremely poor developing countries whose populations live in extremely poor economic conditions, in addition to high population growth rates, unemployment and low income levels.
