With significant participation from companies, business leaders, and founders, the “Emirates Green Building Council”—an independent forum dedicated to preserving the environment by promoting and encouraging green building practices— celebrated ten years of success in achieving its goals of becoming a key partner in realizing the United Arab Emirates“ green vision, during a special event recently held at the Sheraton Mall of the Emirates Hotel.
During the ceremony, the founders—represented by Habiba Al Marashi, Dr. Sadiq Awinaati, and Saeed Al Abbar, Chairman of the Board—shared their ideas and insights on the sector with Council members. Dr. Awinaati highlighted the Council’s pivotal role in bringing about tangible changes within the country’s construction sector and its position as a platform for promoting green building practices. He also spoke about the significant positive impact of the Council’s work, which has extended beyond the country’s borders to support the operations of green building councils across the Middle East.
The "Emirates Green Building Council“ has led the establishment of a network of green building councils in the Middle East and North Africa under the umbrella of the World Green Building Council. The Council also released three important sector-specific reports: ”Technical Guidelines for the Retrofit of Existing Buildings in the United Arab Emirates,“ ”The Emirates Green Building Council’s Energy Efficiency Program,“ and ”Benchmarking Standards for Energy and Water Consumption in Hotels in the United Arab Emirates.”
The "Emirates Green Building Council“ was established with the aim of advancing green building concepts that ensure the preservation of the natural environment and promote sustainability, The Council is committed to aligning its work—in terms of content and objectives—with the roadmap set out by the UAE National Agenda 2021, the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy, and Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. More than 150 companies are members of the Council, which has contributed to bringing about qualitative changes in the construction sector and the retrofitting of existing buildings by providing professional training and specialized workshops.
