In its latest issue, the prestigious American magazine “Forbes” named the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz—may God protect him—among the top ten most influential and powerful figures in the world, for the fifth consecutive time.
King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz topped a list that included a number of heads of state and prominent figures, most notably Russian President Vladimir Putin, who surpassed his American counterpart Barack Obama for the first time; Obama came in second, and Chinese President Xi Jinping came in third. Pope Francis I made his first appearance on the list at number four, while German Chancellor Angela Merkel ranked fifth.
This selection and international recognition come naturally at a time when the Kingdom is taking great strides toward joining the ranks of politically, economically, socially, and educationally advanced nations, in light of King Abdullah’s reforms that have spanned all sectors and made the Kingdom an ideal destination for political reconciliation and economic investment, at a time when the Arab world and the region in general are going through a sensitive and critical phase, during which he—may God preserve him—has managed to steer the Kingdom to safety and achieve economic leaps that have placed it among the top twenty economies globally.
King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz led numerous global intellectual and humanitarian initiatives. At a time when some voices were rising to instill fear of Islam in what became known as the “Islamophobia” phenomenon, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques sought to promote dialogue among followers of different religions and civilizations, crystallizing this vision by establishing the King Abdullah Center for Interfaith Dialogue and making it a beacon in the heart of the European continent.
