Architect and architectural critic Michael Webb has published his book *Building Community and the Architecture of New Apartments*, in which he praises his colleagues who have devised innovative solutions for crowded cities, In the book’s introduction, he noted the importance of building more apartments to alleviate the housing shortage in cities, as well as the need to use land more efficiently to spare citizens long commutes to the suburbs.

In his book, Webb criticized architects who prioritize profit at the expense of building design, describing most new apartment buildings as ugly and lacking access to light and air, In an effort to demonstrate the untapped potential of such buildings, he compiled a collection of about 30 examples of modern architecture from around the world, ranging from luxury apartments to public housing, and from low-rise to high-rise structures.

The book highlights a number of exemplary design models, such as the City Life complex in Milan, Italy, which is a residential and commercial complex spanning one square kilometer in downtown Milan, and features skyscrapers designed by the late Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, Daniel Libeskind, and Arata Isozaki, as well as its own park and metro station. The apartments are shaped like luxury yachts and feature fluid lines and curves.
