Saudi Arabia ranked second in the Arab world and 38th globally on the list of countries with very high human development, according to the United Nations Development Programme’s 2016 Human Development Report.

Dr. Fahad bin Sulaiman Al-Takhefi, President of the General Authority for Statistics, stated that Saudi Arabia achieved this tangible progress, which was reflected in the 2016 Human Development Report issued by the United Nations Development Programme, in which it was classified among countries with very high human development, having previously been among those with high human development until 2014.He emphasized that the report is part of a series of reports published annually by the United Nations Development Programme since 1990, and in addition to the main themes it presents annually—focusing on addressing one of them— a set of statistical tables for various indicators, the most important of which is a table containing the Human Development Index ranked by human development level across all countries worldwide; this index serves as a measure of the development achievements made by nations.He noted that the Kingdom’s notable improvement on the global stage—which has elevated it to second place among Arab countries in the Human Development Report and secured it a high global ranking of 38— compared to its 39th-place ranking last year, is a continuation of the noticeable improvement in the Kingdom’s ranking over the past three years
