Liquidity “available cash” in the Saudi economy, reaching an all-time high by the end of February 2025, with an annual increase of 277,490 million riyals, representing a growth rate of 10.1%, bringing total liquidity to 3,033,684 million riyals, compared to 2,756,193 million riyals in the same period of 2024. This strong performance reflects growth in the broad money supply (M3), according to data released in the monthly statistical bulletin of the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA).
Levels of liquidity levels recorded monthly growth estimated at 67,543 million riyals, representing a 2.3% increase, compared to the end of January of this year, when they stood at 2,966,140 million riyals.
These liquidity levels serve as a driver and support for the economic and commercial system, contributing to positive growth rates in the economic development process.
A review of the four components of the broad money supply (M3) in its broad and comprehensive sense reveals that "demand deposits"—which account for the largest share of the total at 48.5%—stood at 1,470,383 million riyals at the end of February, while “time and savings deposits” 1,031,712 million riyals, making them the second-largest contributor to the total money supply at 34%.
“Other quasi-monetary deposits” reached 293,683 million riyals, accounting for 9.7% of the total money supply, making them the third-largest contributor, while “Cash in Circulation Outside Banks” at 237,905 million riyals, accounting for approximately 7.8% of the total money supply.
It should be noted that quasi-monetary deposits consist of residents“ foreign currency deposits, deposits against documentary credits, outstanding transfers, and repurchase agreements (repos) executed by banks with the private sector, Domestic liquidity (N1) includes cash in circulation outside banks, as well as demand deposits only, while (N2) includes (N1) plus time and savings deposits. The broad definition (N3), which includes (N2) plus other quasi-monetary deposits.
