The “Knowledge-Based Economy and its Role in National Development” Conference 2014, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Planning and the United Nations Development Program, will be held on 24/6/1435H (24/4/2014) at the King Faisal Conference Hall in the Riyadh Intercontinental Hotel under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Saud Al-Faisal, Minister of Foreign Affairs. The conference will witness great cooperation between the public and private sectors to promote the Kingdom's orientation towards transformation to a knowledge-based economy.

The conference comes in line with the Kingdom's strategies and plans to shift to a knowledge-based economy, and emphasizes the ongoing efforts to shift to the knowledge economy as a strategic choice towards sustainable development and knowledge-based investment based on technology, creativity and innovation and a key driver of economic growth in many countries.
The conference is expected to play its role in supporting national development through the exchange of local and international experiences and expertise and key issues related to the transition to the knowledge-based economy, in order to achieve the success of future projects and local plans, as a group of experts and scientists from home and abroad in the field of knowledge-based economy, communications, information technology, innovation and investment, in addition to the participation of experts in the field of human resources.
The themes of the conference will address the issues of “human resources”, “research, innovation and investment in knowledge-based fields” and ”the role of ICT in the knowledge economy”.
The conference aims to emphasize the Kingdom's orientation towards a knowledge-based economy by upgrading human cadres and aligning higher education outputs with the labor market. The conference calls for strengthening the trend towards research, innovation and investment in knowledge-based fields, through localization of technology, added value and the extent of benefiting from international experiences. Also, how to transform scientific capabilities into commercial opportunities. It also highlights the role of information and communication technology in the knowledge economy in order to enhance national security.
