<U.S. analysts revealed that the cost of losses from Hurricane Ida and its aftermath could reach $95 billion, mostly in northeastern states hit by heavy rains, putting the storm in the category of other deadly hurricanes that have paralyzed the region in recent years.
Joel N. AccuWeather founder and CEO Joel N. Myers on Friday estimated the total damage and economic losses from Hurricane Ida at about $95 billion, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Mark Zandi, Moody's chief economist, estimated the total cost of physical damage to property, buildings and public infrastructure from Ida at up to $50 billion, half of which is in the country's northeastern states where the storm caused flooding and tornadoes that killed more than 40 people, including five in the Philadelphia area.
Zandi said the damage from Ida in today's dollar amounted to about half the cost of Hurricane Sandy, which hit the East Coast in 2012, and a quarter of the cost of Hurricane Katrina, which hit the Gulf Coast and New Orleans in 2005.
