The Ministry of Commerce reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring the elections for the boards of directors of the chambers of commerce and to applying the highest standards of governance in the electoral process, in accordance with the Chambers of Commerce Law and its implementing regulations.
The Ministry emphasized the importance of candidates for Chamber membership adhering to public order, societal values, and fair competition; complying with laws, regulations, and instructions; and respecting the rights of other candidates, including refraining from interfering with their election campaigns.
The Ministry expressed its commitment to monitoring the elections, clarifying that each candidate is responsible for any violation committed by him or her or by any of his or her staff, without prejudice to the responsibility of the perpetrator of the violation, and that candidates must ensure their election campaigns remain within the Chamber’s purview.
In accordance with the executive regulations of the Chambers of Commerce Act, the Election Committee formed to oversee the Chamber’s Board of Directors elections has the right to issue a warning to and disqualify any candidate who violates the rules set forth in the Act and the regulations, and the aggrieved party may file a complaint with the Objections and Appeals Committee to resolve the objection within a period not exceeding three business days.
