Twitter and other social media platforms are the most important channels of new media communication and have, unfortunately, recently become a significant influence on certain behaviors among the audience—behaviors based on systematic misinformation and intellectual pollution, particularly regarding people’s private affairs and interests—affecting their decisions, contaminating their information, and spreading recommendations drawn from the swamps intruders and the ignorant—especially regarding the real estate sector.
Unfortunately, as we review the history of the real estate sector—both past and present—we find that information spread through rumors spreads like wildfire and affects the average consumer, particularly in their decisions regarding home ownership or investment. In light of modern technological advancements and new media platforms on social media , we see that rumors and misleading theories dominate the scene and are followed by the average consumer, influencing their decisions—and perhaps even causing them to take on financial burdens they cannot afford, causing them to miss out on opportunities. Those preying on this sector capitalize on people’s emotions; they always portray themselves as consumer advocates to mask their ignorance, lack of professionalism, and lack of experience.
It is time for the relevant authorities—whether media outlets or regulatory bodies specializing in the real estate and construction sectors—to begin enforcing regulations to regulate the new media landscape and to take action real estate media with regulations and legislation that support the sector, hold accountable, and deter those who mislead or intrude on the sector without expertise or professionalism.
We look forward to the relevant authorities in the real estate sector initiating measures to advance real estate media and everything published across various media platforms, as well as prosecuting those who slander, mislead, or attack those working in the real estate sector—or even ordinary consumers and parents—against anything that stirs up public opinion, and that criticism be conducted in accordance with regulations and based on objective facts.
To ensure we reach safe ground, I emphasize the need to require everyone who practices real estate media not to allow anyone known as a real estate professional to appear in the media unless they have obtained membership from the competent authorities and a professional classification from the General Authority for Audiovisual Media, and requiring them to establish a specific mechanism to be implemented immediately to ensure that mistakes and violations are not repeated and are addressed when they occur, and to put an end to any content that violates media content regulations, including the removal of such content, accompanied by disciplinary penalties such as fines and a ban on media appearances.
